Graduate student positions (Ph.D.) available at MSU
Dr. Jianrong Wang is an assistant professor in the Department of Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering at Michigan State University (MSU). He is looking for highly competent graduate students (Ph.D.) to join his lab. Multiple Ph.D. positions are available, supported as graduate research assistants (RA).
Research in Dr. Wang’s lab is in the intersection of machine learning, statistical modeling, bioinformatics and computational biology, with a focus on building novel hierarchical Bayesian models and efficient learning algorithms to construct large-scale networks and to decode the genetic basis of human diseases, based on big-data from genomics. The lab is well funded by NIH.
The candidates are expected to be highly self-motivated and have a strong passion for scientific research. Students with excellent mathematics, statistics or computer science backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Strong programming skills (e.g. Python or R) are expected. Students with prior research experiences in computational biology or bioinformatics are preferred. Knowledge in genomics is a plus but not required.
